Project Overview
This case study delves into the development of the ArtExplorer App, a project undertaken during the Fall Semester as an in-class assignment. Over the course of the semester, the team dedicated their efforts to addressing a common issue faced by travelers: the challenge of locating and navigating to local art galleries and street art scenes in unfamiliar cities. This problem led to the conception of the ArtExplorer App, aimed at providing users with a solution to effortlessly discover and explore art in urban environments. Through GPS precision and personalized tours, the app aims to enhance the cultural immersion experience for both seasoned art enthusiasts and curious novices alike.

The Problem
Visiting a new city often presents the exciting prospect of exploring its vibrant cultural offerings, including local art galleries and street art scenes. However, navigating these artistic landmarks can quickly become a daunting task, especially for travelers unfamiliar with the city’s layout. Without proper guidance, individuals may miss out on hidden gems tucked away in alleyways or off-the-beaten-path galleries. This challenge not only diminishes the overall experience for art enthusiasts but also hinders their ability to fully immerse themselves in the city’s creative atmosphere.

Implementing a login interface that prioritizes simplicity, featuring only essential elements for user convenience. Clear and concise labels. Additionally, an optional “Remember Me” checkbox with a clear explanation offers added functionality, all designed with contrasting colors and appropriate font sizes for optimal readability across different devices.
Map Based Information
As a user, I want to explore museums, galleries, and art installations on a map-based interface within the ArtExplorer app so that I can easily discover and plan my artistic adventures.
Integration of a map view with zoom prioritizing user control and privacy. Add Visually distinct icons to represent various art location categories, an intuitive filter menu, a displayed search bar that enables easy location searches within the interface, all presented with contrasting colors.
Gallery Information

Implement an easily and accessible “Galleries” section from the main app interface, a user-friendly search bar. Clear and easy-to-navigate filter options for location, artistic medium, and period enhance user experience, while gallery listings maintain a consistent format and include high-quality photos of spaces or artwork. Save galleries and note taking
As a user, I want to easily save interesting galleries and take notes about my visits within the ArtExplorer app so that I can personalize my exploration journey and remember key details about the art I experience.
Ensure a prominent “Save” button or icon in each listing, accompanied by a visual confirmation upon saving. Access to the “Saved Galleries” list should be convenient via a dedicated tab or menu option. Each gallery detail page should offer a designated section with a text editor for notetaking, and options for adding photos or recording voice memos for a comprehensive experience, all with clear editing and deletion functionalities.
Community engagement and reviews
As a user, I want to connect and engage with other users on the ArtExplorer app through reviews and discussions so that I can share my artistic experiences, gain insights from others, and feel part of a vibrant art community.
Implement an intuitive option for users to write and submit reviews on each gallery or art scenes sections, accompanied by a user-friendly rating system. Within the app’s “Community” section, users can engage with others by following shared interests, accessing a visually appealing feed displaying reviews, discussions, and recommendations, complete with interactive “Like” and comment buttons for user interaction.
Educational resources and insights
As a user, I want to access educational resources and insights directly within the ArtExplorer app so that I can deepen my understanding and appreciation of the art I encounter.
Add a “Resources” feature section or tab containing curated lists of educational materials related to various artistic periods, movements, and techniques, including links to reputable websites, articles, podcasts, or video documentaries, each accompanied by a brief description. Additionally, consider integrating bite-sized informational blurbs or “Did You Know?” sections within specific gallery listings to highlight interesting facts about artists, artworks, or artistic movements, and optionally, offering short audio guides narrated by art experts for enhanced user experience.
Profile
As a user, I want to create a personalized profile within the ArtExplorer app so that I can curate my art exploration experience and connect with other users who share my artistic interests.
Allow users to create profiles with usernames and optional profile pictures, with the ability to select preferred languages for the app interface, if desired. Users can personalize their profiles with short bios or descriptions of their artistic interests and manage their profiles by editing information such as usernames, bios, and pictures at any time, with the option to set profiles as private or public for controlling visibility of their information.
Event Calendar
As a user, I want to easily access a comprehensive event calendar within the ArtExplorer app so that I can discover upcoming art exhibitions, workshops, and other events happening in my area or places I plan to visit.
Implement a feature for all “Events” to be easily accessible from the main interface, offering a clean and user-friendly calendar view with options for daily, weekly, and monthly displays and clear highlighting of upcoming events. Within the calendar view, users will find clear and concise event listings displaying the event title, date, time, location, and a brief description for quick overviews. Additionally, a filter menu will be implemented for refining searches by location, event category, or artistic focus, and clicking on an event listing will open a dedicated event page displaying additional
